Carl Craig In-Store: Phonica Records

On Saturday 5th March 2011, the legend that is Carl Craig played an intimate half an hour gig at Phonica Records to promote the release of Planet E‘s 20 year retrospective.

Of course when such a renowned Detroit techno legend turns up to play in London, it’s a safe assumption that a devout following of fans will swamp any location he plays in. Phonica was no exception, hoards of music aficionado’s queued patiently in the rain to catch a glimpse of his short but amicable set. The lucky ones who did make it into the store were rewarded with free beer and one of the most relaxed vibes and loose crowds that I’ve witnessed in London.

Of course this was always a warm up set to Carl’s later performance at Ewer St warehouse with Radioslave AKA Matt Edwards and Francois K, who were both present as well as Rekids label boss James Masters. As always the Phonica crew put on a great show and each took it in turns playing back to back, whilst Phonica head honcho Simon Rigg played a solid 30 minuet set.

For me this was a great beginning to my Saturday night, so thank you Phonica, bring on the next one.
