Electronic music can be a fleeting beast at the best of times; genres, artists, venues and publications can burn and extinguish in the blink of an eyelid. Possibly being the definitive example of this is the 10 x 10 event being the Manchester International Festival in conjunction with The Warehouse Project. The reason for this is the unique venue for the two day event; the Mayfield Depot.
An intimidating, cavernous industrial space of weathered concrete and steel, this is the only chance you will get to see a Warehouse Project event at the venue. It is far from a question of licensing, the Mayfield Depot will be torn down before the end of 2015 as part of a redevelopment project. What better example of rave mentality could there be than this opportunistic seizing of a promising yet condemned space?
The event spreads over two days with a live concert on the Friday and an all day through to 2am session on the Saturday. Having just announced his two track conceptual album, Four Tet will be live in concert on Friday, backed up by Tyondai Braxton and Koreless.
Saturday sees a Detroit invasion with Carl Craig and Mike Banks taking top billing amongst a galaxy of stars. Other esteemed names featuring are DJ Koze, Joy Orbison, Midland, Kyle Hall, Maurice Faulton, Jacques Greene, Mr Ties. Plus live sessions from Octave One, Paranoid London and Dark Sky. The local Manchester scene is also represented by the tireless Greg Lord & Krysko, Illum Sphere, Zutekh DJ’s and The Unabombers.
Tickets are expected to evaporate on release. They become available at 10am today, don’t commit to any iOS firmware updates until after you grab them.
