You most certainly know him as Fantastic Man, boss of the Melbourne-based Superconscious Records and Fine Choice: since debuting half a decade ago with the ‘Plastic Fantastic‘ EP, Mic Newman’s rapidly made a name for himself with a series of smooth, fruity house groovers full with an enthralling organic lean.
Mostly released via his own channels, Newman’s body of work also includes a pair of twelves for Jacques Renault’s Let’s Play House imprint and another for Paramida’s Love On The Rocks – the Aussie producer showing at ease on various playgrounds, meshing the propulsive crunch of tribal polyrhythms with straight up hypnotic bass motifs and a pinch of breaks.
Early September will land his debut album as Mind Lotion on Parisian imprint Antinote – ‘Altitude Attitudes‘, an eight-track LP showcasing the more balmy facet of his production and fitting just as nicely next to D.K.’s serene summery chillers.
Our premiere, the toasty ‘Hotel Breakfast‘ takes on a sensuous funky vibe, cruising on the cerulean skyline amidst xylophonic streams, water slapping samples and high-pitched synth beams. Proper prismatic audio utopia right here – radiant and welcoming like a fantasized land of plenty. Time to set sail!
Altitude Attitudes is released via Antinote early September, pre-order a vinyl copy from Juno.
