Lone: Airglow Fires

Touted as a return to his downtempo roots, Lone’s first post-Galaxy Garden issuing—a two tracker for R&S— proves to be yet another golden touch from a man who currently can do no wrong.

We are set on our path with Airglow Fires and it takes no time in quickly stepping into that familiar Lone sound, nostalgic electronica which evokes memories of being an eyes-streaming 9 year old sat in front of Mario Kart’s Rainbow Road. However, a lip smacking amount of spice is added is with that nod to Hip Hop past, the fat swinging beats and big round low end lending a certain Masters At Work warmth to the track.

No strangers to combining Hip Hop and House themselves, it is no wonder why Begin To Begin also takes me back to the heyday of the classic New York twosome. Again, Lone’s knack of plucking out the most cosmic of synths gives it that unique twist. These are married with dancing Jazz improv melodies and embracing chords in a track that gives you a Ready Brek glow just by listening to it.

Short and sweet, there is nothing not to like here. Jabbing your finger at the play/rewind button will make rainy days fade away and hazy afternoons glow that little bit brighter, the perfect form of aural Prozac.
