Carsten Jost

Carsten Jost 6

Label: Dial
Set Type: DJ
Based: Berlin, Germany
Press Pack (Biography & Photos)

emUnder the alias of Carsten Jost hides none other than David Lieske, co-founder of the seminal deep-house bastion that is Dial Records. A native of the red-brick-dressed Hamburg, David couldn’t have wished for a better school than Germany’s best-known disco-chalet, i.e. the mighty Golden Pudel, where he and longtime partner in crime Lawrence would get to decisively forge their unique sensibility whilst learning the ins and outs of DJing.em

emAs a master of the decks, Carsten Jost covers a wide span of hypnotic house music as much as he enjoys traversing more nuanced spectrums of leftfield electronics and further melancholy-drenched ambient. If the majority of his productions were originally issued back in the early two-thousands, 2017 marked an important milestone in David’s own artistic career with the release of his second album, ’ememPerishable Tacticsemem’, featuring material new and old, including some previously released tracks from his emem’Atlantis’emem EP as well as his timeless classic, emem’Love’emem, originally part of a 2007-issued split 12″ alongside Efdemin.em

emWithin two decades of faultless curation and body-and-soul dedication to their craft, it’s safe to say Dial has become one of the most dependable and respected record labels in the world of electronic music, laying the foundations to a sound catalogue unlike anything else, and which very few out there could ever boast bringing to life: Efdemin, John Roberts, Pantha Du Prince, Roman Flügel, Portable, DJ Richard, Christian Naujoks, James K… the list is long.em

emAnd so goes the list of key clubs and events David has graced over the years, with past performances at Zur Klappe, Paloma Bar, Griessmuehle, ://about blank, Panorama Bar, Public Records in New York, REX Club in Paris, Golden Pudel and PAL in Hamburg, JAX in Amsterdam, Jaeger in Oslo, Oval Space and Corsica Studios in London.em

Former owner of the Parisian antenna of Smallville Records whose ever tasteful selections and curation has earned him the respect of all, Jacques Bon is a French DJ and producer who likes to steer his listener deep into the dreamier end of the spectrum, as his affiliations justly attest.

Ldy Osc

Labels: The Bunker New York, Kontra-Musik
Set Type: Live / DJ
Based: Vienna, Austria
Press Pack (Biography & Photos)

When she gets on stage, Texas-born Vienna-based producer Alyssa Auvinen Barrera becomes LDY OSC. A frontier-busting scrambler of sines by trade, Alyssa began her musical journey in the late ’90s when she felt a connection to the rage of heavier industrial sounds. By 2007 she was immersed in electronic music and soon turned her sights toward DJing. After learning electronic music production techniques, Alyssa moved to NYC in 2010 to attend university, graduating with a BFA in Liberal Arts and Science with a Major in Music and Sound Engineering.

If she has long been taking part in synth-punk/wave projects such as Artefactos De Dolor – alongside Todd Sines and Archetype – whose debut LP ‘La Niña’ came out earlier in 2019, LDY OSC is now spreading her wings as a solo artist. After releasing the single ‘OAO’ on The Bunker New York 15-year anniversary compilation, quickly followed by her first solo effort on the label, ‘Magic² of 8 EP’, in 2018, Alyssa made a further impactful impression with ‘sōt’, issued via Swedish label, Kontra-Musik, and which could be presented as the “dub version of the Chernobyl meltdown”.

Showing a much different facet of her craft, LDY OSC’s own take at the dance and festival-oriented music continuum can be heard on her upcoming ‘Electric-Earthy-Esoteric EP’, released on c.l.a.w.s and Solar’s label, Squirrels on Film. The record’s already gained support from Salon des Amateurs mainstay Lena Willikens, who played the track ‘Give Me’ on BBC radio, while Mozhgan included ‘Generate’ into her Dekmantel podcast. A citizen of the universe to its widest extent, just as comfortable incorporating foreign cultures and languages into her art as she is toying with the semantics of analogue music, LDY OSC is just getting started.

Fred Mann

Fred Mann

Set Type: Live / Live AV
Based: Berlin, Germany
Press Pack (Biography & Photos)

Links: Soundcloud | Instagram | RA

Fred Mann is a British-born electronic musician and visual artist based in Berlin, whose subtle craft could be defined as crag-hopping the outer recesses of electronica, rugged IDM, pounding techno and technicolour rave while setting these varied modes against a background of widescreen ambience and atmosphere.

Having grown up absorbing the innovations of Warp luminaries such as Aphex Twin, Chris Clark, Boards Of Canada and LFO, Mann developed a distinctive sound and creative process that both reflects and builds upon these influences, among many others. Looking to expand the scope of his cross-dimensional explorations, Fred is currently working on releasing his debut album and audiovisual experience, a project conceived in late 2017 and recorded between Berlin, London and Los Angeles. ‘In Thy Domain‘ is both a concept record and a live audiovisual show.

The visuals and sound are presented through a custom-built website that enables listeners to explore the album and the narrative simultaneously. The record was produced and mixed by Chris Taylor (Warp/RCA) and Ed Davenport aka Inland (A-Ton/Counterchange), with additional synthesizers, clarinet and flute from Chris Taylor and additional drum programming and sound design from Ed Davenport.

Fred Mann is scheduled to perform his debut live AV set in Prague, as supporting act for Alessandro Cortini on 2nd November 2019. Visuals will be provided by Benjamin Maus (allesblinkt).

Antepop is the alter ego of Tom Durston, founder and editor-in-chief of Inverted Audio, an evangelist of raw techno and deep house. Practicing his art through vinyl grooves only, his selection gives full vent to extended blends of widescreen electronics, rugged techno and deep house.

If Jungle and Drum & Bass were his first love, Antepop went on to explore a much more diverse spectrum of electronic music, drawing in the far-reaching scope of Inverted Audio’s coverage the essence to reinvent himself time after time. It is clear to say that there is no limit to the scope of his selection.
