Japanese musician, composer and actor Ryuichi Sakamoto has died at the age of 71 as a result of a three year battle with multiple types of cancer, first discovered in June 2020.
Long heralded as a leading light in the world of contemporary music, as a solo artist and as a member of Yellow Magic Orchestra, Sakamoto established himself as an ivory counterpoint of choice for the experimental music world through peerless collaborations with musicians including Christian Fennesz, Alva Noto, Christopher Willits, Sachiko Matsubara, Kotringo, David Sylvian, Youssou N’Dour and Taylor Deupree.
As expected, Sakamoto’s passing has sent shockwaves throughout the global music community and we would like to personally extend our deepest condolences to his friends and family.
Thank you for the music Mr. Sakamoto
