Premiere: Jesse Rae – Almost Ma Sel Again

Originally released in 1985 via Hamburg-based record label Echo Beach, Jesse Rae‘s album ‘Compression‘ receives a second life treatment condensed into three essential tracks accompanied by the cult classic cut ‘Rusha‘, presented as a first-ever limited edition 12-inch on Glasgow-based label Pace Yourself.

Previously running as an independent candidate for Scottish Parliament three times, the Celtic funk warrior is set to release four Funkadelic-infused tracks combined with post-folk poetry, new jack swing and experimental downtempo simultaneously broadcasted over the phone around the world in 1985.

For this special occasion, we picked ‘Almost Ma Sel Again’ for our premiere. Providing a mesmerising ballad over the course of 4-minutes, the Portland-based singer delves into mutant funk territories with a blend of broken drum rhythms, balearic-infused synths and new wave chants enhanced by a highly-introspective lecture in the background.

‘Almost Ma Sel Again’ is scheduled for release on 2nd July via Pace Yourself. Order a copy from Bandcamp.
