Oldschool jungle devotees IJO and Quaad pair up on ‘HVS08’, a split EP for Quaad’s Seattle based Heavy Sounds imprint. The producers contribute a pair of tracks per side, with plenty of amen breaks and pumped up retro futuristic energy to spare.
Heavy Sounds has spent close to three years championing the vibrant and essential new jungle sounds from his home base in the Pacific Northwest and beyond. Quaad’s love of 90s rave, drum & bass, and jungle extends beyond label curation to hosting underground parties and DJ’ing a weekly late night radio show on a Seattle dance station.
He’s connecting the dots to other parts of the world by enlisting Lithuania’s IJO on the label’s eighth release. With a slew of albums and tracks, including 2024’s ‘Short Form Jungle’, IJO knows how to juice up the rave with his potent mixture of atmospheric and raucous elements. His and Quaad’s tracks remind us of what makes jungle so appealing: it’s rooted in scenes over thirty years old yet the best producers offer a fresh perspective on their productions to highlight how rooted in the future the genre has always been.
‘HVS08’ is out now via Heavy Sounds. Order a copy from Bandcamp.
