The latest episode of our sister mix series Newtype Rhythms features a surefire shock to the system, rave-ready and brimming with breaks galore – courtesy of Berlin favourite Nasty King Kurl.
After releases for the likes of 777 Recordings and his own Nasty Enterprises imprint, he heralds two seriously packed EPs for the likes of Mother’s Finest and Nerang Recordings – with the respective rollouts of ‘Hekate’ and ‘Weak Lips’.
The dichotomy displayed in these two releases signify a producer that’s only just begun to simmer at the surface; as Kurl delights in touching upon the genres of electro, breakbeat, grime and G-Funk with a sense of whimsy that’s becoming increasingly rare to hear and see in a community that’s yearning to take a breather and grin.
