12 years after the inaugural EP on Scissor and Thread, Rochester-based producer Black Light Smoke marks his long-awaited return to the Brooklyn-based imprint with his second album ‘Ghosts‘.
Originally from Chicago, Jordan Lieb studied at Hampshire College in Amherst, Massachusetts, before moving to New York in 2001 to pursue a career in music. He eventually met Scissor and Thread label boss Francis Harris (circa 2010), whilst Harris was looking for a studio to mix down his debut album ‘Leland‘.
Francis Harris worked together with Jordan in his studio, using his SSL mixing desk and analog gear, resulting in a friendship between the two producers and the eventual release of seven solo EP’s from Black Light Smoke between 2011 – 2019.
Jordan Lieb now returns as Black Light Smoke with ‘Ghosts‘ – a woozy deep house LP consisting of 15 chugging grooves, analogue synth melodies and sultry vocals that will appeal to the deepest of house heads. Our pick from the album is ‘Sprinkles Says‘ – a prime opening track featuring the always inspiring words of Terre Thaemlitz speaking in an interview about the continuous struggles that musicians face.
‘Ghosts’ is scheduled for release on 2 June via Scissor and Thread. Order a vinyl copy from Inverted Audio Store.
