Cuddling Monsters, the Berlin-based duo of ZentaSkai and Laura Merino Allue, return to Mask Records with ‘Cuddling Monsters Vol. 02′, the second chapter of their exclusive vinyl-only series.
Across four tracks, the EP strengthens the foundations of the production duo with a fusion of dub techno, minimal and Detroit-inspired house, while maintaining a deep current that draws the listener inward. The duo’s commitment to analog sound shines through, with each track imbued with a tactile, almost physical quality – where the limitations of their equipment become an asset, forcing creativity to take shape in unexpected ways.
Of the four, ‘Temporal Aura’ stands out as an exquisite soundtrack venturing through deep techno’s altered realms. Here, the duo blends celestial, elongated synths with rapid-fire hi-hats and ultra-filtered kick drums, allowing each sound to dissolve into a vast, cavernous space. The track’s ebb and flow create a profound sense of isolation and introspection, as if navigating through a vast, cosmic expanse where fragmented echoes of the self are all that remain.
