Beware Mixmag, here’s another contender for your much talked-about contest of the silliest DJ name from last year – one that could eclipse the likes of Roy Of The Ravers, Ross From Friends or DJ Boring in a flash. Under the funny name of DJ Stoner Dad actually goes a bloodshot eyes fatherly DJ who – according to the press release – “likes getting his hits from the bong on during the infamously long Warsaw afterparties“. Quite the unbeatable combination.
Navigating what Transatlantyk describe as the “yet uncharted waters of the “lol-fi” breakbeat house scene“, the Polish producer makes a splash with his four-track debut EP, ‘Raw Romantics‘. Our fav from the package – the high-powered ‘Magik Phunk‘ – works its ’90s-laced wizardry to perfection. Welding together the classic liquid jungle-y fundamentals, steely rhythms and mellow house pads with a polychromatic palette and oozy open-air house feel – all coagulated through an ocean of tape hiss and distortions, Stoner Dad captures the essence of summer with spirit and style.
Raw Romantics EP is released via Transatlantyk on 30th June, pre-order a vinyl copy from Bandcamp.
