Milan-based record label 51 Beats return with ‘Ermete,’ an electrifying EP from Italian producer Ermete.
Following a slew of experiments under various aliases, Luca Umidi unleashes his distinctive approach to modular unpredictability, casting a spell of machine-crafted sonics that pulses with dark, atmospheric tones and enveloping drone textures. ‘Ermete‘ emerges as a masterclass in the spontaneous interplay of hardware synthesis, with Umidi weaving dark ambient vistas and otherworldly drone oscillations into a mesmerising landscape.
Our pick form the album is ‘29°00′N 13°44′W (I-II-III).’ A breathtaking 23-minute voyage, this track invites the audience into a vast, unsettling world of shifting drones and rumbling oscillations, exploring the raw geological undercurrents beneath the Caldera Del Corazoncillo (Canary Islands).
Opening with slow-breathing, high-voltage bass arpeggios that stretch the boundaries of tension, it simulates the fragile crust of molten lava inching across the mountain’s skin. As the journey unfolds, layers of complex, bubbling drones form a cinematic soundscape, evoking a post-apocalyptic tableau where the earth, in all its power and desolation, surpasses the remnants of human civilisation.
‘ERMETE‘ is scheduled for release 4th April via 51 Beats Records. Order a copy from Bandcamp.
