Seven years deep into the belly of the beast, Vienna-based Belly Dance Services return with a globe-spanning exercise. Their latest V/A enlists eight world-class producers for a jet-lagged journey through modular mischief and transcontinental club psychedelia. It’s less a compilation, more a clandestine meeting of audio agents plotting a reroute of global frequencies.
The roster reads like a secret society of global groove artisans with Lyon-based shimmering trio Eftersom, Italian synth romantic Vicky Montefusco, dark-disco troublemaker Dan ChiCharron, elusive sound-pilot Globemaster, label don Nick Hanzo, low-end alchemist Kormos, reFelt and the blissed-out manipulations of Treasure Island. Together, they map out a borderless terrain of late-night transmissions, each track a coded message for the dancefloor, dialling in on frequencies that blur the line between the mystical and the mechanical.
For our premiere, we shine a light on Globemaster’s ‘Irritilas‘ – a slow-motion chugger that feels like it’s been smuggled out of some sacred dance ceremony deep in the Sierra Madre. Built at a slo mo 110 BPM pace, it slinks through your psyche with rubbery bass, ritualistic percussion and arpeggios that glisten like morning dew on obsidian. The breakdown hits like hallucinatory visions, conjuring forgotten myths and almost-extinct cultures via a sequencer of infectious arpeggios.
‘Various World Wide V’ EP is scheduled for release on 25th April via Belly Dance Services. Order a copy from Bandcamp.
