Following the release of a limited edition 10-inch lathe cut vinyl in December from Offish, Czech record label Soul Ex Machina line up the second volume from Mexican producer Grey.scale.
Hailing from the boroughs of South London and curator of the bass-rooted imprint Dead Pest Records, Grey.scale trades a collection of dubbed-out soundtracks from murky swamplands to vacant moonscapes in Mexico. Consisting of three tracks, ‘SEMXX2‘ EP combines astral dubstep, hi-fi steppers and 2-step melancholia.
Our pick is ‘Life Goes On‘, which unleashes six minutes of dubstep aerobics intertwined with majestic piano chords, high-functioning breaks, dubbed-out echoes and smoke-filled arpeggios. With an ultra-altered metamorphosis at its core, ‘Life Goes On‘ pays a dewy-eyed tribute to Digital Mystikz infusing freaky bass enthusiasts with a shivering revelation.
‘SEMXX2’ EP is scheduled for release on 12th April via Soul Ex Machine. Order a copy from Bandcamp.
