A new sub-label emerges from Neptune Discs – and who better to launch Jupiter’s Depth than deep-sea house explorer Harrison BDP. His new 4-track EP bubbles up from the ocean floor with molten energy, conjuring visions of alien lifeforms drifting around hydrothermal vents. Packed with with volcanic energy – giving life to thousands of little critters to swim and dance around the ears.
Having appeared earlier this year on Neptune Discs’ main label compilation A Portal To The Unknown: 6 Rotations Of Neptune Discs, Harrison BDP now steps away from the more progressive lean of that release, instead prioritising rhythm and locking into steady, club-focused grooves.
A2, ‘Mushy Peas’, is the clearest showcase of the kind of rollers found on the So What EP. Built around a tom-heavy pattern, its off-beat hi-hat is reinforced by a distinctive percussion sample that slips in and out of focus. This organised percussive chaos keeps the track gripping from start to finish.
Harrison BDP skilfully adds and subtracts layers, avoiding the temptation to push the mix into full cacophony. Instead, each harmonic element gets its own moment in the spotlight. The way he spotlights different parts during the breakdowns ensures every hook feels newly charged — encouraging the ear to catch rhythmic relationships that previously sat unnoticed.
Harrison is the first of many artists set to explore this new sub-label, and he’s already set a formidable benchmark for just how deep Jupiter’s gravity can pull.
“So What EP” is scheduled for release 12th December via Jupiter’s Depth. Order a copy from Bandcamp.
