Ghent-based record label Viernulvier gear up to issue the debut album ‘wow, x‘ from Brussels-based abstract virtuoso maya dhondt.
A diligent pianist with a penchant for classical music, Maya Dhondt turns old musical scores into ashes, venturing into uncharted territory with a mind-warping brew, encompassing metaphysical fragments of abstract poetry combining English, Flemish and French with glitchy experimental and neo-classical minimalism.
Our pick from the album is third track ‘untitled‘. Providing a satirical French monologue to her audience, the track transcends the misplaced feeling of being lost in translation with a dewy-eyed piano introduction morphing into a superstorm of deconstructed frequencies intermingled with a hyperactive chorus and bass-driven oscillations.
