Berlin-based DJ, producer, and mastering engineer Sebastian Genz, better known as Moomin, returns this month with his fourth full-length album on Istanbul-based label Oath.
Since its emergence in 2020, Turkish imprint Oath has steadily built a formidable catalog, releasing music from some of the most revered producers in the game including; Hidden Spheres, John Beltran, Blomfelt, Seb Wildblood, Gacha Bakradze, Genius Of Time, and most recently, SofaTalk—whose track we premiered last week.
Titled ‘Into The Distance‘, Moomin’s latest album is a mesmerising 10-track journey through the folds of ambient, breakbeat, trip-hop, and deep, melody-rich house music. Rooted in his signature sample-based approach, the album exudes warmth and nostalgia, wrapping listeners in an irresistibly immersive soundscape. After just one listen, its hypnotic rhythms and textures leave a lasting imprint, beckoning for repeated plays.
A standout moment comes with “The Cut“, a track built around a shimmering, nostalgia-tinged sample. As the groove unfolds, a spoken-word passage emerges around the two-minute mark—an instructional guide on vinyl cutting machines, test cuts, and groove width. It’s a subtle yet striking nod to Moomin’s craft as a mastering engineer, seamlessly blending his technical expertise with his musical vision.
Moomin once again proves his ability to craft evocative, deeply textured compositions—this time, with a label that continues to push forward-thinking sounds.
‘Into The Distance’ is scheduled for release on 28 March via Oath. Order a vinyl copy from Inverted Audio Record Store and digital from Bandcamp.
