Ozzy Jones issues his debut album ‘Between You and Me’ on Dutch imprint Intercept. The project is the raw, urgent result of a life-altering epileptic seizure Jones suffered in 2019, an event that shattered his sense of self and forced him into solitude, reflection, and emotional reconstruction.
Blending electronica and indie with a deeply personal interdisciplinary approach, between you and me explores the themes inspired by this life-changing event. Created alongside local Dutch talent in music, design, film, and photography, the album is rooted in Amsterdam’s creative community. Its title nods to Jones’ mother’s 90s fashion label, while the cover features a lino print made by his sister, a family thread that runs through the album’s core.
Opening the project is “asking your name,” setting the emotional tone of the record. A simple yet affecting combination of shimmering guitar work, soft synths, and vocals crystal clear backing vocals. A yearning little number that dances between a James Blake-esque electronica and the rich tones of shoegaze, a delicate breakbeat later develops the track into something lush and discerningly expansive.
“There’s a deep urgency behind between you and me because it’s not just an album: it’s the outburst of a lifealtering experience I can’t keep inside any longer. After my first seizure everything I knew about myself and the world shattered. Music became the only place I could process the intensity of those feelings: loss, identity, solitude and emotional truth. This project is my way of reclaiming space: not just for myself, but for anyone navigating the gap between vulnerability and strength. I feel I owe it to the version of me who was silent, afraid, and disconnected to now speak loudly, honestly, and with conviction. I can’t wait any longer because this isn’t just about me, it’s about what we suppress, as artists, as humans. If I don’t do this now, I fear I never will. I’ve never felt more ready to connect, to challenge, and to share what’s truly between you and me.” – Ozzy Jones
