Premiere: Significant Other – Mike’s Gone Back To Manchester

Today’s premiere is a push-and-pull narrative that weaves between wired wails and bass-fuelled bellows, courtesy of Brooklyn-based artist Significant Other.

With his forthcoming four-tracker entitled ‘Club Aura’ due for release on Oscilla Sound, we were eager to hear the directions he would take from his stirring ‘Triptan’ release on SP:EC in 2018 – and this shift in tone and tenacity certainly has caught our attention.

‘Club Aura’ is a magnified, varied set of tracks that imbue a rhythmic sensibility that’s second-to-none whilst balancing a bevy of surreptitious elements around it. The most exemplary track that highlights all these qualities is today’s pick of the litter, “Mike’s Gone Back To Manchester“.

Playing hot-and-cold from the outset with its pulsating stabs and icy percussive hits, the track builds on serving a narrative that reveals itself to be more devious than demonstrative; inviting truancy within its harrowing atmosphere. Evocative yet elusive, this track begets a curious listener to dive deeper and get lost in a trip that may lead to parts unknown. Listen for yourself and see where it takes you.

‘Club Aura’ is scheduled for release 6 March via Oscilla Sound. Order a copy on Bandcamp.
