Premiere: Viola Klein – New Chapter (Kassem Mosse’s Snooze Mix)

Eupen’s multi-dimensional platform, festival and record label Meakusma return with “New Chapter“, a 9-track vinyl release from Cologne-based artist Viola Klein. The record expands on material drawn from Klein’s 2024 release “Confidant” and her collaboration with the Sabar Ensemble Diop from Saint-Louis, Senegal.

Across the record, Klein gathers a constellation of sounds and textures: remixes and drum recordings, piano medleys, and field recordings of shingle, waves and birdsong, alongside remixes from Kassem Mosse, Nídia and Whodat.

True to the ethos of Meakusma – renowned for its focus on experimental music and avant-club sounds – “New Chapter” thrives on exploration and disorientation. It blurs the lines between field recording, rhythm and melody, moving fluidly between structured groove and raw improvisation.

Our pick from the release is “Kassem Mosse’s Snooze Mix” – a silky smooth, low-slung house excursion stretching over eleven minutes. The track pulses with Kassem Mosse’s signature beat architecture, tinged with that touch of uncanny beauty that makes his work so distinctive. A mesmerising groove, crisp rim-shots and tapping hi-hats intertwine to form a hypnotic slow burner for the deep-house heads.

This Saturday, Meakusma and Het Bos will host a launch party for New Chapter featuring appearances by Viola Klein, Kassem Mosse, Nídia, and Hill Men. It kicks off with a DJ set by INA in the bar of Het Bos – a fitting introduction to a night exploring the outer edges of today’s underground club moods.

“New Chapter” is scheduled for release on 24th October via Meakusma. Order a copy from Bandcamp.
