Italian imprint e s p e r p e n t o line up their second release ‘Albatros’ by Violet Poison. Following in the footsteps of the label’s inaugural compilation, filled with eerie synth cuts inspired by Ramón del Valle-Inclán’s 1924 play ‘Luces de Bohemia’.
Appearing on that record under his Red Lodge alias, Francesco Baudazzi returns as Violet Poison, delivering five tracks that are rounded off with a remix by Liber Null founder Unhuman. Replete with haunting electronics and unsettling atmospheres, ‘Albatros’ is not for the faint of heart.
‘You Shine On Me’ was written during lockdown in 2020, a time at which the producer was exploring the eighties Japanese synth-wave and sci-fi aesthetics. Baudazzi’s knack for beautifully melancholic melodies really shine on this track, the perfect accompaniment for some haunting reverberant vocals.
‘Albatros’ is scheduled for release 15 June via e s p e r p e n t o. Order a copy from Bandcamp.
