Following in the footsteps of Martyn and Breakage, veteran drum and bass producers Kryptic Minds have taken down the tempo to 140bpm and offered up, for Loefah’s new label Swamp 81, two of darkest cuts that we’ve heard in a long while. “One of Us” is a brooding monster with an uneasy half-step rhythm and enormous bassweight. What makes this tune so special, though, is the atmospheric chord sequence, echoing along in the background, that gives a nod towards Basic Channel techno. “Six Degrees”, on the flip, offers up a similar vibe but with added ferocity and the dancefloor in mind. Not unsurprisingly, fans of Loefah should take note. Instant reload material!
