Today, American record label Carrier issue their next album release courtesy of New Jersey-based auteur instrument designer, master synthesist, and new music composer Jeff Snyder.
Encompassing six experimental soundscapes, ‘Loom‘ marks a compelling return to the label after a six-year hiatus, delivering a rich tapestry of modular-driven textures, fragmented club rhythms, glitch-infused noise and mutant nu-jazz. The album is a must-listen for synth enthusiasts craving otherworldly auditory experiences wrapped in cosmic reverberations.
To coincide with the album’s release, today we shine a light on the music video for opening track ‘Redox‘, directed by American visual artist Jessica Segall. Said to explore the paradox of curative methods in harmony with the environment and industrial scale oil extraction, Segall draws inspiration from the ancestral healing properties of crude oil acclaimed by Soviet resorts. Designed to capture the first interactions of human body with black gold, Segall explains her approach:
“Hostile and threatened landscapes are the sites for my work. While embedded in these sites, I play with both the risk of engaging with the environment and the vulnerability of the environment itself, examining a queer ecology. My work is built on research that includes collaboration with collectives, scientists, activists, plants and animals. Influences include activism, Land Art, slow cinema, and contemporary writings on ecological futures. I aim to work within what Gomez-Barris describes as a “decolonial queer femme method… reorienting perception away from the static “object of study” toward a deep “engagement with it.” My work is usually presented as large-scale video projection, sound and /or installation; a combination of slow, mesmerising images and built form.” – Jessica Segall
‘Loom’ is scheduled for release on 6th September via Carrier. Order a copy from Bandcamp.
