Following their well-received “Dilation” LP from last year, German duo Grandbrothers (Erol Sarp and Lukas Vogel) join forces again on FILM to bring a fresh batch of remixes from an eye-catching group of producers.
Whilst the original LP retains an experimental approach through sounds that were generated only by a grand piano and a system of electromechanical hammers to control and ‘play’ it, the remix EP (which also marks the label’s first outing of 2016) allows total freedom to the artists involved, leaving the process of reworking and reproducing the sounds from the original works without creative limitations.
As one can expect from a remix EP contributed by New York’s Falty DL, 2nd Drop’s affiliate Djrum, Phillip Otterbac (under his Grand Optimist moniker), and 1080p’s Portable Sunsets – the result is varied and brings a colourful blend of interpretations without indicating a specific genre.
Now streaming in full on Inverted Audio the remix of ‘Neon’, courtesy of Brooklyn-based producer Portable Sunsets, adds caressing vocals samples with floating synth chords and reshapes the original track into a breezy house jam. Warm and uplifting sounds to make us feel mournful about summers ending.
Dilation Remixes is scheduled for release October 14th via FILM, head over to Juno and grab a vinyl copy.
