Taking place this weekend (1-2 August) within the iconic geodesic dome at Pub Stallhagen on Åland, Kokong Festival returns with its most ambitious edition yet — a potent gathering of experimental electronic and electroacoustic artists set against the island’s serene Baltic landscape.
This year’s line-up includes a headline set from Icelandic techno duo Exos, Stockholm-based producer Sissel Wincent, a rare collaborative performance from Swedish electronic innovator Andreas Tilliander and trumpeter Goran Kajfeš, alongside a live set from American acid techno figure Auvinen, aka Tin Man.
Over the course of the weekend, Kokong Festival offers a unique blend of local and international artists, surrounded by visual installations, spatial sound experiences, and elements of dance and performance art.
At the heart of the festival is its namesake structure – the Kokong dome – an architecturally striking venue with transparent walls that blur the lines between nature, audience, and performance. The dome is set to create an intimate yet expansive environment for immersive listening, where ambient compositions and club-driven rhythms unfold in full sensory detail.
“This summer’s edition will be the biggest yet, with more international acts, a handcrafted high-end sound system, and greater investments in the visual experience,” says Johan Grönlund, Chair of Kulturföreningen Ström, the local cultural association behind the event.
Beyond music, Kokong nurtures creativity and participation through a series of free workshops held in collaboration with international synthesizer manufacturers. Visitors can explore electronic instruments and music-making tools first-hand, with a special workshop dedicated to children and youth, culminating in a combined dance and music performance by the performance art collective Urgrund.
Located in the Baltic Sea between Sweden and Finland, Åland is a Swedish-speaking archipelago increasingly recognised as a new hub for forward-thinking cultural gatherings. With its blend of avant-garde music, local artistry, and natural beauty, Kokong Festival 2025 reaffirms Åland’s status as the “Ibiza of the Baltic Sea” — offering festival-goers an unforgettable experience that exists at the intersection of nature, technology, and art.
