Dutch record label Music From Memory welcome Turkish-born, now Amsterdam-based producer Loradeniz to the fold with the announcement of her forthcoming debut solo album ‘SUN SHONE‘.
Following up a split EP on Artificial Dance with Interstellar Funk in 2022 and a split LP on Nous’klaer Audio with Kems Kriol in 2024, ‘SUN SHONE‘ marks the producers debut physical album, delivering eight tracks of fantastical ambient electronic music painted masterfully with a palette of synths, effects, percussion, deeply layered melodies all tied together with her ethereal voice.
Omeroglu wrote, performed and produced everything on the album, drawing on her deep knowledge of music theory and production; in addition to studying classical piano in the Conservatory from an early age, she holds both a Bachelors degree in Composition Studies and a Masters degree in Sound Design.
Lifted from the press release the album “was conceived in two parts: the first tracks coming spontaneously to life in the aftermath of heartbreak, with Omeroglu trusting the creative flow and using it as a method of self- healing. What was initially planned as an EP release grew into a full-length album as she spent one month consciously working on the perfect B-side to complement the music.”
To offer further insight into this stunning debut album, we reached out to Loradeniz to ask her a few questions and we are delighted to present a premiere of the seventh track from the album ‘Swimmer‘.
Hello Deniz, thank you for taking the time to speak to us, when did you start to compose and create the album?
There wasn’t a clear concept at first. This record wasn’t even meant to be an album. Around mid 2023, making music had become my effortless daily ritual – a natural way to express what was inside.
By then, I had figured out how to shamelessly bring together what I knew, what I felt, and my natural voice, and I started saving my tracks under the folder; sun shone, sensing that a new era was opening within me. Something had unlocked.
When Music From Memory decided to release some of the tracks from that folder and turn it into an album, I created new ones to shape it into a full album.
I always knew what the album title was going to be. That somehow provided me with a sense of direction throughout the creation process, like a path to fantasise the sound sphere. In hindsight, this album feels like my way of shedding the weight that life can place on you – to step into something new.
I came across this quote by Albert Camus while writing these words today, and it perfectly sums up the album and its process: “In the midst of winter, I found there was, within me, an invincible summer.”
Where was is created?
I recorded and worked on all of the tracks in my studio. It was a very personal journey, so throughout the process, no one else heard or gave feedback on the tracks – except for me. Once the tracks were chosen by the label, I began sharing the final versions with just a handful of loved ones.
How did you first meet and eventually release your music through Music From Memory?
It all happened through a chain of coincidences. I knew Tako from the Amsterdam music scene (Tako Reyenga, co-founder of Music From Memory), but we had never properly met until we were booked to play on the same day at a radio station in Amsterdam.
It was during Covid, and we were all gathered at the radio, which was next to an exhibition space that had a piano. At some point, I stepped away from the studio and started playing. Tako heard me, came over, and asked me to play my own music – which, by chance, I already was. We spent some time near the piano.
He was really impressed and asked me to send him my music. But I wasn’t ready yet, so I waited until it felt right. Took me only a couple of years. In September 2024, I finally sent him some music, including a few tracks from that sun shone folder. Tako was immediately into it – and that’s how it all started.
Who is behind the album artwork?
The artwork is by Michael Willis, who creates sleeve art and design for Music From Memory. I gave him a mood board that reflected the colour scheme I felt best matched the sound of the album and my personal aesthetics. From there, he came up with this beautiful artwork, and I absolutely love it.
‘SUN SHONE’ is scheduled for release on 21st March via Music From Memory. Order a vinyl copy from Inverted Audio Record Store and digital from Bandcamp.
