Now on the cusp of their thirty-first release, Icelandic imprint bbbbbb released ‘Verk‘ LP – courtesy of Reykvavik-based trio ex.girls, previously known as Russian Girls.
Since their inception in 2017 by Guðlaugur Einarsson and rapidly joined by the vocalist Tatjana Dís and the drummer Gylfi Sigurðsson for the project ‘Halda Áfram‘ that won ‘Best Icelandic Electronic Music Song’ in 2021 – their debut album ‘Verk‘ presents a wide range of half-carved singularities including post-punk eurodance, arctic nu-wave, coldwave dub and steamy neo-folk.
Our pick is ‘Inner Outer‘ – a dubbed-out broadcast anchored by speedball drum rhythms, languorous chants and semi-eruptive synth pads. It feels like the ultimate derecho-like soundtrack for those holding their precious flying mansion on the planetary substrate.
