Random Numbers is a Bologna-based record label run by Carlo Mameli and Bartolomeo Sailer. Their latest compilation, produced in association with Bologna UNESCO City of Music, can be seen as the sequel to their ‘Parallel Routes’ compilation, which came out in 2020. ‘Second Wave’ explores the emotions of the last year through the lens of eerie electronics.
Producer, singer and DJ, Eylül Deniz is based in Istanbul. She’s a part of the record label and collective, Badmash in addition to being the music director of NOH Radio, a crucial part of the local underground scene.
Our pick from the compilation is ‘Distance’. Gleaming synths descend into something more sinister after the one minute mark. The artist’s cries are set against a murky backdrop of industrial clangs before we emerge in more hopeful surroundings towards the end of the track.
‘Second Wave’ is scheduled for release 21 July via Random Numbers. Order a copy from Bandcamp.
