Founded in the wake of the eponymous Matera-based event series, Italian imprint XCPT Music follow up to their solid debut offering from co-founder Nothus with a wild new collaborative EP that gathers both label heads Nothus and Delikwe, featuring extra remix firepower courtesy of Detroit’s very own Manuel Gonzales as MGUN and UTTU/Crème affiliate DJ Plant Texture.
Meshing a tornado of breezy breaks with a supple and colourful harmony of vaporous pads, ‘Redwalls‘ sets things in motion in the nicest way, before MGUN puts his unique spin on it – distortions blazing, fractured drums pattering – mind-bending to the fullest. Flip sides and witness ‘Requiem‘ speeding up the existential highway pedal to the metal, elegiac and boisterous with its arpeggios flying low in fierce uptempo drives.
Our pick, DJ Plant Texture‘s rework of ‘Requiem‘ takes us straight back to the year ’92 for a super intensive jungle workout – Source Direct style – that’s sure enough to make you want to fetch your finest Adidas Originals tracksuit with its flown, psychedelic motifs, orange-tinted glasses and fluo smiley-emblazoned backpack. Adorned with an epic vox hook picked from The 2 Live Crew’s ‘Get The Fuck Out Of My House‘, what’s not to love here for real? One for the longing junglists and lonely ravers. Blast it loud!
ARCHIVEBGR293 is released via XCPT Music on 24th April, pre-order a vinyl copy from Juno.
