Following up 2021’s ‘Vital Contrast‘ on Serein, UK-based sound artist Paul Oednom is set to debut on Tokyo ambient label Umé Records.
‘Equal Parts‘ fits nicely among the label’s back catalogue, with references to Japanese environmental music aka Kankyō Ongaku, while pushing ambient home listening forward with its delicate sound design. With gentle guitar tones and hypnotic keys and effects, Oednom crafts music that conjures both expansive landscapes and intimate moments.
Our pick is “Here and There“. Oednom employs understated guitar melodies and his arsenal of effects to infuse the track with an ambient noir vibe that’s nevertheless calming in its intention. The track unfolds with waves of synths ebbing and flowing along the main guitar tones as it gently approaches its conclusion and fades into white noise.
‘Equal Parts’ is scheduled for release on the 1st March via Umé Records. Order a copy from Bandcamp.
