Run by Amsterdam DJ and producer Cool Tiger, Junction Records is one of those labels that deals in tracks that are functional while remaining a little off-kilter. There’s also a bit of a psychedelic streak on many of their releases, which is certainly the case on their latest EP.
For the label’s fifth outing, Barcelona-based artist Random Access returns to the label with a three-track EP of modular techno trips. From the pummelling rhythm of ‘Overflow’ to the sludgy and contorting ‘Bubbles’, the artist delivers a range of moods on the simply titled ‘Junction 005’.
Our pick from the release is ‘Q-Factor’. The name of the track is a term from physics that is used to describe how underdamped an oscillator or resonator is. It seems a fitting title for the kind of swiftly oscillating synthesis that we’re presented with on this twisted techno cut.
‘Junction 005’ is scheduled for release 1 September via Junction Records. Order a copy from Bandcamp.
