Russian producer Andrey Kurokhtin returns to American record label Not Not Fun in May with ‘Sequences for Fluttering‘, his latest offering as Shine Grooves. Described as “a 54-minute voyage through synthetic woodwinds, cosmic electronica, ASMR breakbeat, new age glitch, and glassy orchestral abstractions.”
Where 2023’s ‘Watching the Breeze‘ explored neon hued dub techno, ‘Sequences for Fluttering’ further expands the project’s range, sounding like an invitation to bask in the sunrise of a simulated reality. The listener remains blissfully unaware of the lines of code beneath the lovely scenery embedded within each track. The release is mostly beatless, save for a few tracks, with new age elevator muzak on some tunes and breezy synths over subtle field recordings on others.
Our pick for today’s premiere is “Dancing With Alina“, an IDM-laced stunner that would fit perfectly on a new edition of the Artificial Intelligence series. With a striking synth line and a subtle breakbeat-lite percussion pattern, Shine Grooves is fully in his element as he transports you to another realm on “Dancing With Alina“.
‘Sequences for Fluttering’ is scheduled for release on 2nd May via Not Not Fun. Order a copy from Bandcamp.
