Premiere: SOM.1 – Akua

French imprint AWO tee off their release schedule with ‘Akua‘, a new single from Montpellier-based production duo SOM.1.

Following up their digital single in 2023 on R&S Records, SOM.1 tease listeners with a track from their forthcoming debut album, scheduled for release in October. Lifted from an interview with label founder Djena, “AWO Records embrace everything from Breaks, UK Garage, and Drum & Bass to experimental club hybrids and leftfield forms that defy classification.”

Clocking in at 135 BPM, ‘Akua’ simmers with dark textures and mutant breaks. Peppered with 90s hip-hop vocals, a tightly-coiled arrangement of terse breaks skitters over an ominous fog. Floating amidst cyber-fuelled ceremony and UK bass futurism, ‘Akua’ is music for the dance.

‘Akua‘ is scheduled for release 11th July via AWO Records. Order a copy from Beatport.
