Twenty years charting the fringes of experimental music, German record label Denovali continue their quest with the forthcoming release of ‘Guaniyin‘, the debut full-length from Lyon-based producer Lilou Chelal, better known as Tauceti.
Partly glimpsed during her set at Les Nuits Sonores, ‘Guaniyin‘ gathers years of cross-continental transmissions, weaving together distant cultural echoes from the Middle East and Asia. Across eight tracks, Chelal builds meditative structures where dense dark ambient layers, frictional drones and dissonant textures merge into something almost devotional, like an invocation of Avalokitasvara’s ancient role as a goddess of protection.
Our pick for the premiere is ‘Black Mamba‘, a glacial drone plunging into serpentine architectures. Tauceti conjures a cold-blooded choreography of oscillating sine waves, unfurling with the grace of a reptilian creature. Subterranean drones writhe beneath layers of tension, invoking the primordial rules of survival.
‘Guanyin‘ is scheduled for release 26th September via Denovali. Order a copy from Denovali.
