Premiere: Thomas Köner returns with ‘Tiento de las Nieves’ on Denovali

After two years of silence, ambient legend Thomas Köner returns to Denovali Records with a fresh new album and conceptual series. Opening this collection of ‘Tientos‘ – titled after the eponymous keyboard-based style of music born in Spain – this ‘Tiento de las Nieves‘ sees Köner explore the piano in all its strengths and weaknesses, rigidity and roundness.

The result is a 68-minute long sonic impression of a white wilderness-like environment as Köner describes it himself. Every note of piano appears to fall exactly into its right place, individually finding its meaning in the conjunction of the whole. Somehow reminiscent of Arvo Pärt’s ‘Für Alina‘, sharing the same stripped-back aesthetic and fragilely unstable equilibrium, ‘Tiento de las Nieves‘ is most certainly a deep and fascinating musical awakening.
