Following releases from Grischer, Shjva & Pyramid Of Knowledge and Moisk, Munich-based imprint Terra Magica Records return with their eleventh release. This time the spotlight falls on label co-founder Tom of Terram alongside producer Listensport.
Pulling together six tracks, Turmalin Dub is said to presents itself as a musical crystal: refracting light into deep colour and pulse, a fortress for the spirited and unconventional, an elegant tapestry woven from texture and rhythm.
The record is further bolstered by a remix from the always on-point Canadian producer RAMZi, whose dreamy, free-form rework extends the EP into playful and unpredictable territory. Across the release, Tom of Terram and Listensport delve into Balearic house, effervescent IDM, dub and foot-shuffling trance. The result is a release that flourishes in the fertile space between the organic and the synthetic.
Our pick from the release is second track ‘Madness’, permeating with acid and live percussion. Sci-fi-tinged sonics light up the track, showcasing the EP’s ability to move both the body and mind. Elsewhere, highlights emerge in the shimmering dub-scapes of the title track, the meditative lift of ‘Spirit’, and RAMZi’s kaleidoscopic remix, each offering a different facet of the crystal.
‘Turmalin Dub’ is out now via Terra Magica Records. Order a copy from Bandcamp.
