Now on the cusp of their twenty-sixth release, Chicago-based art collective and record label Satellite Era line up five tenebrous bludgeons – courtesy of Belgrade-based supergroup TRAKA, which means ‘tape’ in Serbian.
A former night shift clique covering the walls of the White City and several releases on the Prague-based Yuku label, ‘DMSAT‘ takes listeners into a parallel world of hi-fi breakbeats, murky dubstep, artificial jungle, and a dabke-infused workout with Praktikal.
Our pick is ‘Rolando‘ – a stormy electro cut laced with nervous synths, startling hi-hats and syncopated samples. A hyperbolic percussion jam follows in the second half, defying everyone’s audible perceptions. It’s nothing short of an infectious tribute to the transistor rhythm freaks highly addicted to the iconic Roland machinery.
