Hamburg-based record label Unsure cue up their next extended player from Düsseldorf-based producer Stefan Schwander, operating this time as While My Sequencer Gently Bleeps.
A shape-shifter by trade, Schwander has long haunted subterranean circuitry under production guises including Harmonious Thelonious, Antonelli Electr. and The Durian Brothers. Anchored in the paradoxical constraints of the Elektron Monomachine, ‘Last Night A Bassline Saved My Life‘ EP navigates low-end terrains, blending broken-beat psychedelia, syrup-paced downtempo and cavernous dub techno into a slow-burning incantation.
Our pick from the release is ‘Persona‘, a highly-arranged track composed of drunken polyrhythm dances from the rhythmic pulse of the sequencer, dubbed-out basslines and church-like chord progressions set the atmosphere ablaze. As the track unfurls, drum knocks echo like forest spirits on ecstasy, guiding listeners towards a late-night revelation where circuitry seizes the pulse and machines dictate the groove.
‘Last Night A Bassline Saved My Life‘ is scheduled for release 11th July via Unsure. Order a copy from here.
