Succeeding the ‘The Future Is Not What It Used To Be‘ from Pajaro Sunrise in February 2024, Madrid-based record label Lovemonk prepare to release the nine-track ‘Jolifanto‘ LP – courtesy of Barcelona-based duo ZA! and Sevilla-based flamenco vocalist Perrate.
Since the nineties, Perrate has explored the flamenco periphery and decided this time to embark on a journey into uncanny territories with ZA!, combining ancestral gitano folklore with dubbed-out chuggers, cavernous experimental and swathing soundscapes of synthesized avant-garde in a set of nine cross-genre treasures.
Our pick for the premiere is ‘Jolifanto‘ – the post-punk story of a lonesome Dadaist survivor cloistered in the backwoods. Beginning with a dark ambient soundscape, ZA! and Perrate move through trance-inducing flamenco mantras and vaporous drum rhythms before stamping the future hallmark of Spanish folklore.
