"SUN SHONE is a profoundly individual album that celebrates the personal and intimate whilst remaining expansive in its exploration of genre and experience."
Amsterdam-based composer, pianist, vocalist and producer Loradeniz is a harbinger of the ethereal and hypnotic in her debut album release on Music From Memory, an ambient, neo-classical work titled “SUN SHONE“. Born in Istanbul, Deniz Omeroglu curates an album with melodic sensibilities similar to those of classical Turkish folk music, maintaining fluidity whilst composing deeply expressive, textured and emotionally rich soundscapes, evoking delicate nostalgia alongside a dreamlike weightlessness.
In 2023, the release of her two singles “Orison” and “Moonpath Nocturne” can be listened to not only in their own right but as foreshadowing to this new creation and its hymn-like sensibility, and when listened to in succession, one can appreciate the refinement of vocal experimentation that has taken place as well as the layering of a heavily synth-driven undercurrent married with orchestral elements to produce an intricate web of instrumentation.
Due to Omeroglu being the sole creative on this work, remaining alone in the writing, production and performing, which all took place at her studio in Amsterdam, “SUN SHONE” is a profoundly individual album that celebrates the personal and intimate whilst remaining expansive in its exploration of genre and experience.
The sonic palette is supportive in this ideology of introspection and immersion that is constructed through listening, blending textural electronics with elegant acoustic elements lending to an ambient minimalism. The alternation between piano and warm, reverb-bathed synths highlights the human touch amongst layers of electronics and ethereal tones, which form a dreamscape foundation reinforced by symmetrical pulses that build momentum and elicit hope, coinciding with the general aura of freedom this album encompasses.
Comparing “SUN SHONE” to previous endeavours, there is a warm, gentle glow apparent that differentiates itself from the downtempo, deep techno, grounded quality of her previous collaborative work “Never Been” on which she worked with Amsterdam native Interstellar Funk. However, both remain cinematic yet refined in their utilisation of her haunting vocals and layering techniques.
“No Moon”, aptly named for the impression it leaves, is reminiscent of ascension, its gradual expansion moving with a majestic ease, the synths glowing and spreading with the slow stretch of a sunrise making for a rewarding listen up to its closing. This is equally reflected in other tracks on the album such as “Saint Odds” and “Cloud Sofa” as they each stand as individual hymns to the sun and its energetic frequency.
An ode to growth, hope and optimism, Loradeniz invites listeners to engage with her journey as well as cultivate a relationship with their own through the almost compulsory introspection that coincides with the experience of “SUN SHONE“. With each replay, something entirely different and equally inspiring is discovered which is something to be highly celebrated in a first album release.
‘SUN SHONE’ is scheduled for release on 21st March via Music From Memory. Order a vinyl copy from Inverted Audio Record Store and digital from Bandcamp.
