Those with their fingers on the pulse in Kyiv will know that ∄ is one of the best places to party in the city. Their forward-thinking and inclusive events have lead to the genesis of the multidisciplinary Standard Deviation collective/label.
While Standard Deviation’s first release saw Nene H and Poly Chain join forces for a hard-hitting techno/electro four-tracker, their second release takes a different route in more ways than one.
‘Sui Noxa’ (meaning ‘one’s loss’ in Latin) is an audiovisual collaboration that takes the form of a 15-minute video work and a 5-track EP. A joint venture between multi-disciplinary artists Diana Azzuz and Rina Priduvalova, ‘Sui Noxa‘ follows their inaugural A/V project Hyperreal, which was released late last year.
The new project explores the interplay between digital realities and lived experiences through a series of vignettes that move from almost-real psychedelia towards the video game aesthetics of yore. Musically, we encounter a mixture of grime, techno and ambient forms, which, while gesturing to the past, also feel undeniably modern.
Along with the video and music, Standard Deviation is releasing a series of 3D printed silver jewellery designed by Diana Azzuz and Rina Priduvalova. It’s a fitting accompaniment to what feels like a completely contemporary statement and an exciting snapshot of the Ukrainian underground.
‘Sui Noxa’ is out now via Standard Deviation. Order a copy from Bandcamp.
