Alex Paterson, co-founder of The Orb, has launched his own label named Orbscure Recordings, a new vehicle for his musical output in different groups. The imprint will also feature artists from Uganda, Kenya, Argentina, Japan and America with further collaborative projects to follow.
Orbscure’s inaugural release is an immersive ambient electronica album named ‘The Heavens‘ from Sedibus, a collaboration project between Alex Paterson and original Orb member Andy Falconer. The first single ‘Toi 1338b‘ shares similar vocal samples to ‘Little Fluffy Clouds‘, first released in 1991 on ‘Aubrey Mixes: The Ultraworld Excursions’, which Falconer helped write and engineer.
To coincide with the album release, a 352-page book ‘Babble on an’ Ting‘ will be published by Omnibus Press – the first full account of Alex Paterson’s life, written by long-time friend Kris Needs. Unravelling an astonishing journey from traumatic childhood through punk, Killing Joke and KLF to starting The Orb in 1988, then the five decade roller coaster that followed. First-hand interviews include those with Youth, Andrew Weatherall, Primal Scream, Jah Wobble, Jimmy Cauty and a parade of friends, collaborators and starship mechanics.
‘The Heavens’ is scheduled for release 28 May via Orbscure Recordings. Order a copy.
