Francis Harris and Gabe Hedrick resurface as Aris Kindt with ‘Now Claims My Timid Heart’

Aris Kindt – the long-running collaboration between Francis Harris and Gabe Hedrick – return with ‘Now Claims My Timid Heart‘, their first album since 2017’s Swann and Odette. Released via Quiet Time, the album marks a subtle yet striking evolution, expanding their introspective blend of ambient, dub, and experimental sound design into new emotional territory.

Formed through a lifelong friendship, Harris and Hedrick’s creative dialogue spans decades. Harris, co-founder of Scissor & Thread and acclaimed for solo albums such as Leland and Minutes of Sleep, joins San Diego-based guitarist and modular experimenter Hedrick to explore the space between structure and surrender.

Across eight tracks, Now Claims My Timid Heart drifts through dense atmospheres of ambient, downtempo dub, and hazy melancholic melodies – built on loops and convolution reverb that resemble field recordings from inaccessible worlds.

Inspired by Franz Kafka’s “Letters to Felice”, the album meditates on communication’s paradox: closeness born through distance, connection through isolation. This literary scaffolding frames Aris Kindt’s sound as “post-structuralist pop” – austere yet deeply human.

Tracks like ‘Saichh Sequences’ pulse with Kafkaesque unease, while others dissolve into dreamlike ambient dub reminiscent of Huerco S, Special Guest DJ, James K, and Gi Gi’s ‘Dreamliner‘. Producer Phil Weinrobe (Adrienne Lenker, Big Thief) brings clarity to the record’s enveloping density, balancing warmth and alienation.

‘Now Claims My Timid Heart’ is scheduled for release on 7 November via Quiet Time. Order a copy from Bandcamp.
