Explore Ensemble commission Rebecca Salvadori for three-part film with; Lawrence Dunn, Angharad Davies and Mark Fell

To coincide with their 10 Year Anniversary, London-based chamber group Explore Ensemble have commissioned video artist Rebecca Salvadori for a three-part portrait series documenting acclaimed composers: Lawrence Dunn, Angharad Davies and Mark Fell.

Shot on location at Snape Maltings in Suffolk during Explore Ensemble’s residency at Britten Pears Arts, Salvadori’s initial film named ‘Suite‘ follows British composer Lawrence Dunn, presenting intimate insight into participating musicians juxtaposed with chromatic portraits and stark natural forms resulting in a truly one-off depiction of that residency.

Rooted in classical music, Explore Ensemble is a chamber group that performs, commissions, and promotes new music. Established in 2012 at the Royal College of Music by composers Nicholas Moroz and Arne Gieshoff, Explore Ensemble has been featured on BBC Radio 3’s New Music Show and at festivals and venues throughout the UK and beyond.

The ensemble’s 2021 releases on the Another Timbre label, portrait albums of composers Oliver Leith and James Weeks recorded in lockdown, enjoyed critical success on Bandcamp’s Best of Contemporary Classical 2021, described by Peter Magarsak as “unlike anything else I’ve heard this year.”

Taking place at Wigmore Hall in London on Friday 8th July 2022, Explore Ensemble presents new work by the British composer Lawrence Dunn, alongside pieces by the acclaimed Scottish composer James Dillon, the experimental Canadian Cassandra Miller, and the prolific German Enno Poppe.
