Taking place in Germany between 12 – 14 July, Gaswerk Music Days is a 3-day music festival organised by Gaswerksieldung Berlin aimed to showcase experimental electronics, jazz, noise, avant-pop, improvisation and dance music as “Radical Live Music”, binding and crossing genres in a program with over 30 acts.
The program consists of a lineup, where energy and quality overcome the classic fractures among music genres and reconcile the most far-flung corners of the musical spectrum. Reflecting a multiplicity of influences and tastes, the festival is by its very nature an event for music lovers, open minds and curious ears.
Friday’s lineup is organised by Romain Azzaro, who brings his Club Bardo on the timetable and affirms his rumbling, rugged “hard lounge” music concept. James Holden headlines alongside the vibrant, polymorphous voice and sound of Catalan pianist, vocalist and producer Marina Herlop. Not to be missed is our local sound alchemists: Das Ende der Liebe.
On Saturday, the lineup is organised by guest curator Rabih Beaini, director of renowned music space Morphine Raum, showcasing a deep blending of experimentation and electronics. Featuring performances from legendary dub-reggae ensemble African Head Charge returning in full live formation after a 13-year hiatus, and Berlin’s ultimate musical revelation: Lord of the Amazing Panther. Come earlier on though, to witness one of the most interesting improvisation jams in town: Cassette Head Sessions.
Sunday’s program features Chilean pioneers Newen Afrobeat, presenting their last album ‘Grietas’; and The Heliocentrics, tracing high-level orbits around funk, jazz, psychedelic, electronic, and avant-garde music. During the day, expect an array of inspiring electronic and electroacoustic live acts.
