Czech sound collective phonon~ host Ambisonics Summer School, Symposium and Concert

Czech-based sound collective phonon~ are set to host their first ever Ambisonic focussed Summer School in North Bohemia this month. Consisting of a two-week long artist residency, a spatial sound symposium and a ambisonic concert debuting the fruits of the residency.

Ambisonics was developed in the UK in the 1970s and is a full-sphere surround sound format: in addition to the horizontal plane, it covers sound sources above and below the listener. The project aims to actively exchange knowledge and experience in the field of surround sound and immersive media, ranging from beginners and professionals.

For the occasion, phonon~ joins forces with Austrian spatial sound platforms OTTOsonics and Tangible Music Lab Linz, as well as the Leipzig-based collective ZiMMT, who are all active in the field of experimental music, spatial sound and education. Members of these institutions will each conduct lectures focussed on Ambisonics including; Manu Mitterhuber, Felix Deufel, Enrique Tomás, Jiří Suchánek, Vít Pokorný, Martin Nitsche.

The artist residency and lectures will be hosted in English at the Löblhof & Artgrund in Staňkovice near Louny. Participation in the symposium lectures is free of charge, however it is necessary to register your attendance for the symposium via email – using the subject “participation in the summer school”.

The program of the symposium will take place from the 16th to the 30th of July and the concluding MELUSINES concert will take place on 29 July at the National House in Ústí nad Labem, where the participants of the residency will present their new compositions of spatial audio to a live audience.
