Working in the gap between rough-hewn industrial, abstract electronics and gritty neo-tech analogueisms, US producer Mark Williams alias Bary Center remains a well-kept secret in today’s underground, even though his stream of releases for the likes of Speaker Footage, Always Human Tapes, Tram Planet Records and Crash Symbols proved him a much deft and inventive groove manipulator.
After countless tapes and digital issues over the last few years, Williams was yet to release music on vinyl, which is now a done deal as he finally decided to take the bull by the horns and pressed his newest mini-album to wax for the first time by his own means. Seeking refuge in your DJ bag, ‘Dystopia Is For The Lovers‘ comes in a very limited run of 50 – so better whip out the pincers and grab when it’s still time.
Premiereing through our channels today, the lead-track ‘Think Again‘ reels out with the confidence of a runaway train speeding the railway at its own measured cadence, tranquilly pulling out all the stops on its way to a trancey, rainbow-hued nirvana. With its steady but swaying locomotive groove and intricately knit mix of breaksy syncopations, slo-blooming pads, bhikkhu-like mantra and tribal percs, BC’s cut engulfs us in a world of hazy mysticism and levitating ethereality. Rave up!
