Following up Last Nubian’s ‘Babylon Shuffle‘ EP in 2023, South London-based community club night and record label Touching Bass return with a highly anticipated album from local producer Ben Hauke.
‘CLUB CUTE‘ marks the debut album from Hauke, who has previously released music through Far Out, Nervous Recordings and Seb Wildblood’s label Church. Over the course of twelve tracks, Hauke steps up to Errol and Alex Rita’s imprint to deliver a constellation of boundary-pushing club jams spanning UK garage, hip-hop, broken beat, crooked breaks, and jungle. In addition, Hauke enlists a worthy roster of contributors including Brooklyn-born rapper Goya Gumbani, Katy B, London-based poet Brother Portrait, Jadasea and longtime NTS resident Shy One.
Our pick is opening track ‘HEYYYYY‘. From the start it gives off the sounds of a broken beat love affair from the peak of a CoOp club night in West London. It’s a beaming introductory jam bolstered with a majestic symphony of strings to close out the track.
