Having released on a variety of leading-edge labels including Börft, Always Human Tapes, Styles Upon Styles, Where To Now?, Clan Destine and a few more, New York producer Bergsonist has been putting her artistic puzzle together with care and taste, establishing a sound both dynamic and highly conceptual, rooted in techno, traditional North African music and off-kilter electronics.
Describing her work as an exploration of “intuitive psychoanalytic theories” – hence the reference to French philosopher Gilles Deleuze’s concept of ‘Bergsonism’, itself derived from another crucial thinker of the 20th century, Henri Bergson – Selwa Abd returns this fall with a new self-released digital four-tracker that’ll further upset those in search for catchy melodies and calibrated rhythms.
Our premiere ‘Shocking Loss Of Empathy‘ finds Bergsonist experimenting with the offbeat pulse of delayed darbukkahs and stealth synth counterpoints to sink your mind into a weird instrumental vortex. Pared-down and hypnotic to the fullest, the track flows like a boiling river, oscillating between feverish moments and calmer sequences, although constantly intriguing and absorbing.
ج is released on 20th October, pre-order a copy from Bandcamp.
